Kolkata woman arrested for theft; Gold, Silver jewellery recovered from multiple raids

A woman has been arrested in Kolkata’s Parnashree area in connection with a house theft involving gold and silver ornaments. The complaint was lodged by Shankar Haldar, a resident of 73/21, New Bagshree Pally, who reported that sometime before May 16, one piece of gold bangle, one pair of gold rings, one pair of gold earrings, and one pair of anklets were stolen from his residence.

During investigation, police identified and apprehended the accused, Mansi Bhandari (48), as a suspect. Upon interrogation, her involvement in the theft was confirmed. Based on her input, the Parnashree police team, in coordination with officers from Amta and Diamond Harbour, carried out raids in the Sararhat Falta area, leading to the recovery of the stolen jewellery listed in the complaint.

Police also recovered additional ornaments from Bhandari’s hideout believed to be stolen in earlier incidents. These included a gold-like chain, a gold-like long necklace (haar), a pair of gold-like bangles, a gold-like nose ring, two gold-like baby finger rings, a gold-like gents finger ring, a pair of medium-sized and a pair of large-sized gold-like earrings, and a pair of silver-like anklets. All these items were seized and catalogued by the police.

Officials stated that several of the recovered items are suspected to belong to other victims who had not filed formal complaints. The Parnashree police are contacting those individuals and informing them about the recovery of their jewellery. The accused has been remanded to police custody till February 22 for further investigation.
